OPDR invests in new containers

Hamburg, 29 November 2011. As a result, OPDR now has one of the youngest container fleets in the Short Sea Shipping market. This investment sees the OPDR container fleet grow by over 20 per cent from 7,000 to a total of 8,500 containers.

This addition to our fleet is made up of 1,500 newly built and owned 40’-High Cube Pallet-Wide Containers. The OPDR Container specification was redesigned to include various features aimed at improving the operational performance of the Containers.

For the first time, OPDR also produced Containers with a Bamboo floor in a step aimed at supporting efforts to find an environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional hard wood flooring. 

"We are well aware of the impact our Container specification and fleet age have on our Containers’ performance and how it impacts the cost of operation", states OPDR Managing Director Mark Wilkinson. "We have therefore introduced various features to enhance cargo protection and reduce the cost of operating the container for our Customers and ourselves. We are constantly seeking ways to further develop our container design in order to offer our Customers the best possible container."
