Welcome on board!
Freighter cruises have a long tradition at OPDR. Each one of our five own container vessels has two cabins for two persons which are especially reserved for our freighter passengers. Many of our passengers who have travelled with us before, are happy to return on board again and again. Whether you are interested in a 21-day roundtrip between Northern Europe, the Canary Islands and the coast of Andalusia or a two week long voyage between Northern Europe and Portugal – OPDR freighter cruises are always a very special experience.
On board our container vessels you can have a first-hand experience of what everyday life at sea really entails. Every action revolves around the cargo in the containers and that it reaches its destination undamaged and precisely on time. And yet, in most cases, there will be enough time for passengers to explore the city surrounding the harbour area. How about a delicious, Mediterranean dinner in the old town of Cádiz or a nice glass of red wine in Lisbon?
If you expect a Captain`s Dinner, luxurious suites or individual wellness and leisure activities on board our vessels, you are well-advised to travel on a traditional cruise liner. The OPDR freighter vessels are equipped with a small library and a DVD-collection as well as sun beds, but apart from meal times and trips ashore, passengers have to entertain themselves. Of course, it may be possible, that the captain, answering your friendly request, invites you to a chat on the bridge. In particular, guests who would like to relax from their demanding jobs, enjoy the self-determined time without distractions on board. Some call it time for “inner reflection”.
There are three scheduled meal times on board, breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food can be compared to wholesome home cooking usually characteristic for the country. Drinks such as water, tea or coffee are served during meal times free of charge. Unfortunately, special dietary requests cannot be fulfilled. Meals are taken together with the Master and his Officers. For passengers who are interested in a seaman’s lifestyle, mealtimes offer the best opportunity to ask more detailed questions. Seafarers are usually considered to be tight-lipped, but you will see how quickly they will open up when asked friendly questions and tell you the funniest and most adventurous stories of their work life.
We are looking forward to welcoming you soon on one of our ships! For further information and details on how to make a booking please contact our partner travel agencies. Unfortunately, direct bookings with OPDR are not possible at this time.
